Are we Independent or In Dependence?

I was thinking about "Independence" today... What does the word mean? In literal English, it means In-Dependence i.e. without dependency.

But, have we achieved that state completely? Can we say that we live in a place which is not subject to conditions? Have we overcome the problems that we face daily or just dodged them periodically because it was easy to do so? You might protest, how else would we be able to live? We are bound to be considerate and do just nothing. We have been taught to be that way, isn’t it? And, to hope that things will automatically fall in their places.

Ironically, we are exactly the opposite of self-sustenance. The pillars on which we stand today are built on uncountable addictions, mythical cravings. Do we deserve such a country with so many productive resources ready to be bettered or instead the word is battered? I might twist my observation and the question then becomes, does this country with innumerable bugs inside the vein deserve us to be staying in? We have everything but sere lack of motive to give this nation a shape that we may proudly call a perfect figure. This infatuation of an expensive past and ever alluring hazy future has left us with even more dependent present.

I am no political Guru, not even an activist, but as I see through this nation through a common man’s tattered glasses (on its 66th Independence Day), India to me seems more OLD than YOUNG.

P.S. I was not able to associate the adjectives Shining, Prosperous, Superpower etc. to India.
